Restoration & Reconstruction of One or More Teeth
Prosthodontics is a specialty of dentistry referring to the restoration and reconstruction of one or more teeth. This includes veneers, crowns and bridge work, implants and dentures.
When a tooth has a large filling, 80% filled or is damaged by decay, we may suggest the placement of a crown to restore the tooth. A crown can be made from porcelain, metallic or ceramic. A crown covers, or caps the tooth entirely to restore it to its desired shape and size. A crown will strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure. Individually constructed and designed, the crown is made especially for you. Your bite will be checked so the fit and function is 100%.
A bridge is a solution to replace one or more missing teeth. Replacing missing teeth makes it easier to chew. It can improve your appearance and maintain steady placement of your remaining teeth. An artificial tooth known as a ‘pontic’ sits between two bridging teeth, and serves to bridge the gap. The bridging teeth will sit over the remaining teeth either side to support the artificial tooth/teeth in place.
A dental implant can restore function and aesthetics to improve your appearance. Dental implants consist of a titanium rod that acts as a tooth root in order to provide jaw strength. A crown pontic is soon attached to the abutment to restore the function and appearance. Dental implants can be placed to support a number of dental prostheses including dentures to replace missing teeth.
